Description
The Goethe-Schiller Monument is a bronze statue of the two German poets Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller. It is located in the city of Weimar, Germany, in front of the German National Theatre. The monument was created by the Dresden sculptor Ernst Rietschel and was unveiled in 1857.
The statue depicts the two poets standing side by side. Goethe, the older of the two, is dressed in a coat and hat, while Schiller is dressed in a military uniform. Goethe is leaning on a tree trunk, while Schiller is reaching out to him. The two poets are looking into each other’s eyes, symbolizing their close friendship and collaboration.
