Description
Nyhavn is a 17th-century canal and today a famous entertainment district in Copenhagen. It is lined with colorful old townhouses, bars, cafes, and restaurants, and it is possible to see many historic wooden ships – some over 100 years old.
Nyhavn was built in 1670-73 by order of King Christian V to create a waterway from the Copenhagen harbor to Kongens Nytorv square. The canal was once an important trading port, but in the 19th century it fell into disrepair. In the 1980s, Nyhavn was renovated and turned into a pedestrian and entertainment district.
